How I lost $1700 in 1 day.

No, I'm not a gambler, and nobody stole it.

It was just after my daughter's 15th birthday. I opened my email, and there was a new bill, $1700 more than the previous one I signed. What! I exclaimed!

A few weeks earlier, I took my daughter for her orthodontic appointment and received an estimated treatment bill stating that this would not change within 30 days, and I signed it. So the next step was to schedule the appointment to proceed.

Being a C personality, a style that is cautious and conscientiously works on details to ensure everything is just right, I asked many questions, and the orthodontist answered them as best as possible.
I went home to do more research. My daughter happened to be another C-personality at a higher level and took time to think about it before making a decision.

By the time we called to schedule the appointment, the next available date was right after her birthday hence the new bill in the email with an extra $1700 for the same treatment.

I was puzzled, so I called to inquire about the increased cost of the bill. The dental office let me know that when a patient turns 15, the dental insurance treats the teeth as adult teeth hence $1700 in addition to our bill. Furthermore, they would not even honor the 30-day validity of the initial estimate.

This situation happened through an over-use of our personality strength.
We over-researched the situation and prolonged decision-making, and lost $1700 in one day.
Now I am more self-aware to see how my personality shows up in how I handle specific situations.

The C-personality is detailed, so they do more research to ensure things are precise, which is suitable for specific jobs where attention to detail is critical.

Jobs like an air traffic controller because they will ensure that your airplane takes off and lands orderly to ensure safety.
Or a pharmacist, when compounding medicine in precise measurements by mixing or altering ingredients to create a medication customized to an individual patient's needs.

Or engineer calculating the strength of the materials so that the Golden Gate Bridge could withstand the millions of cars that cross over it daily.

This personality uses its strength to research, ensure everything is perfect, and cover all eventualities.
With so many advantages, this personality needs a time limit for their research to make sure they'll meet deadlines.

It's essential to be self-aware to see how your personality shows up in how you handle specific situations and, more so, in your parenting.
